1
Q

when are they formed

A

Formed by two or more different kinds of non-metal atoms, chemically bonded together. Molecule formed as no charge (neutral)

Q

to name a covalent bond..

A
  1. Full name of first element + second element named as though it is a negative ion e.g. ending in -ide
  2. Add prefixes to show the number of atoms of each element present
  3. if first element is singular no mono prefix is needed
  4. To avoid awkward pronunciation, the final oh or a of the prefix is often dropped when the element name begins with a vowel

Q

do elements exist in molecular form?

A

When an element exists in molecule form, it is not considered a compound and so covalent compound naming rules don’t apply. We name them as we would the pure element.
