40-50. men are twice as likely. can be active strep B/C or idiopathic. more common in drug users.

symptoms
A
fever, sweats, weight loss, severe muscle or joint pain. anorexia and abdominal pain. many patients have high BP. rashes and ulcers are also common.

A
skin, kidney, nerves, GI. can involve the gut, heart or eye.

causes
A
hep B is associated but rare in the developed world. deposition of immune complexes consisting of antibodies and viral antigens.

natural course?
A
fatal within 2-5 years.

treat
A
prednisone and cyclophosphamide. antiviral therapy can remit most patients.
