SNP - Scottish national party
A
- have campaigned for Scottish independence and were instrumental in bringing about the Scottish referendum on independence in 2014
- polices have moved away from just independence but all focus on putting Scotland first

A
- seek to appeal to the shared identity and language of individuals from a geographical area such as region/nation
- have different objective with some seeking full independence whilst others promote nationalist policies
- eg; SNP, BNP

- may offer a range of polices all of which are based on a particular ideology perspective or a primary goal

- eg of a party with polices based on one ideological perspective
- their polices are based around the principles of social justice and environmentalism

A
- The United Kingdom independence party
- polices based on primary goal of the UK leaving the EU

Impact of minority parties; local and EU elections
A
- fewer people vote in local and EU elections, and minor parties can be more successful than in national elections (UKIP won more seats than Labour in the 2014 EU parliament election)
- by winning these elections minor parties can make their agenda known and public

Impact of minor parties; national elections
A
- able to electorally harm other mainstream parties by taking their votes in elections and attracting their membership (conservatives lost 2 MPs or UKIP before 2015)
- minor parties also have a role in reflecting protests and grievances (may vote for minor parties to show they are unhappy with bigger parties)

Putting issues on the agenda

- if successful in gaining seats at a local/national level minor parties can put their main issues and cause the centre if political debate
- UKIP helped to make the EU and issue debated at national level
