Power of the police

A

Stop and search - police has power to do so if they have reasonable grounds to suspect illegal drugs , weapons or stolen property.

Power of arrest - need reasonable grounds to suspect someone for crime.

Entry , search and seizure - usually obtain an order from court before they can enter and search premises.

A

1) Identify themselves as police
2) Tell them they are being arrested
3) Tell them what crime the police thinks they have committed
4) explain why it is necessary to make arrest
5) explain the arrested person is not free to leave
