Custodial punishment is when
A
You must remain in custody ( usually imprisonment ) .

Prison ( custodial )
A
Offenders normally serve half of their sentence in prison, and rest on license in community . If they break conditions of their license, they can be sent back to prison.

Life sentence
A
Must be given to those guilty of murder. Judge sets a minimum term before the Parole Board can consider release.

Extended sentence
A
A person can be released on license for up to 8 years.

Determinate prison
A
Fixed term in prison. Early release on license depends upon behavior.

Suspended sentence
A
Sentenced up to 2 years but carries out an order such as unpaid work; or recieves treatment for drugs and alcohol to avoid spending time in prison.
