What is hinduism?
Hinduism is a diverse and ancient religion originating in India, characterized by belief in dharma (moral order), karma (action and consequences), reincarnation, and the worships of a variety of deities, with ultimate goals of liberations (moksha) and unity with the divine
Hindu ethical framework?
- actions are informed by the principle of dharma encouraging sustainable and mindful living
- focus on individual responsibility (karma) and collective well-being
What teaching do they live by:
Bhagavad Gita teaches:
- sanatan dharma: eternal duty = relationship with creator/divine source = spiritual life
- swadharma = earthly duty, = teaches to live with laws of nature and not live beyond what you require.
- samadershna - equal vision - recognise - everything has spiritual origin. Just because humans look different doesn’t make them superior.
-ahimsa - non-violence - relates to action towards other people but also nature/animals/environment/ourselves.
Hindu belief on climate change and the world?
- we are taking more than we need
- we have to look within ourselves, you have to change to hearts of the people first or they will just pollute the environment again
- activism should always have love, compassion and developing inner qualities
- dharma calls for everyone to be involved, it is everyone duty and responsibility
Hindu perspective on the environment? (2)
- the Hindu response to environmental damage, pollution and climate change is deeply rooted in its ethical beliefs, emphasizing respect for nature and the interconnectedness of all life
- Hinduism teaches that the universe is a sacred entity, and every living being is part of a larger whole, known as Brahman
