POF - Aerodynamic Forces Flashcards
What is the camber?
The camber is the distance in between the mean camber line and the chord line.
What is the mean camber line?
The mean camber line is an imaginary line between the upper and lower surfaces of the aerofoil.
What is the chord?
The chord is the actual distance from the leading edge to trailing edge measured along the chord line.
What does it mean when an aerofoil has a high speed wing profile?
It means that the aerofoil has a relatively low thickness.
What is a chord line?
A chord line is an imaginary line drawn between the centre of the leading edge and trailing edge.
What is the angle of attack?
The angle of attack is the angle at which the wind meets the Aerofoil.
What is the definition of an aerodynamic force?
Forces that are acting on an object within the air.
What are four characteristics of an aerofoil:
The four characteristics are:
- it is curved overall.
- has a curved leading edge.
- has a sharp trailing edge.
- low angle to the air flow.
What is a symmetrical aerofoil?
When the chord line and mean camber line are parallel.
What is an aerofoil?
An aerofoil is a shaped structure that produces force when air moves across it.
What is skin-friction drag?
When the air particles meet the surface of an object.
Would static pressure be high or low if the velocity is 0?
Static pressure would be at its highest.
What is an ideal flow?
When the pressure distribution is symmetrical.
What does it mean when an aerofoil has a low speed wing profile?
It means that the aerofoil has a large thickness.
If the dynamic pressure is at zero, then what would static pressure be at?
Static pressure would be at its maximum value.
