POF - Airflow Flashcards
What is Venturi’s terminology?
Mass cannot be created or destroyed.
=> Mass that enters a stream tube must remain the same at all points of the stream tube.
What is an ideal fluid?
Air is known as an ideal fluid, this is because it has no viscosity and cannot be compressed.
What is the Coanda Effect?
The Coanda Effect is when a flow of a fluid attaches itself to a surface of an object.
What are the three types of airflow?
- Laminar flows
- Turbulent flows
- Vortex flows
What happens within a converging flow?
The flow speed increases, meaning the dynamic pressure increases but because the total energy must stay constant, static pressure decreases.
What are some characteristics of a Laminar Flow?
- It is smooth and predictable.
- Its speed and direction can be easily measured.
- Has very little resistance.
What is Bernoulli’s theorem?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be changed from one form to another.
What happens within a diverging flow?
The flow speed decreases and so the static pressure increases, but because the total energy must remain constant, dynamic pressure decreases.
What is a stagnation point?
It is a precise location on an object where the flow velocity is reduced to 0.
When static pressure is 100%.
What does it mean when the streamlines are closer together?
When streamlines are closer, it means the flow is faster.
What two conditions for the object must be met for the Coanda Effect to take place?
- The object must be relatively streamlined.
2. The object must be presented at a relatively shallow angle to the flow.
