Rhyme
the repetition of sound. often found at the end of a line. Alliteration, assonance and consonance are also rhyme.
True Rhyme
There is repetition of a vowel sound followed by the same consonant
E.G - SCHOOL, COOL
Masculine Rhyme
One syllable is involved
E.G- HAT, CAT
Feminine Rhyme
Two or more syllables
E.G- LISTEN, GLISTEN
Slant Rhyme
Indicates the consonants are repetitive but the vowel sounds are different
E.G- LIVES, LEAVES
Assonance
Repetition of vowel sounds within words
E.G- OWL, HOWL
Consonance
Repetition of consonants within words
E.G- MIKE LIKES HIS BIKE
Alliteration
The repetition of the first letter of a word
E.G- SHE SELLS SEA SHELLS BY THE SEA SHORE
Eye Rhyme
Words that look like they rhyme but don’t
E.G~ SLAUGHTER, LAUGHTER
