Narrative

Epic

Lyrical
person expresses strong feelings of love or respect for a thing
Ode
poems can be on various topics and lacks any pattern
Free verse
fourteen lines, usually in iambic pentameter. Popularized by Shakespeare
Sonnet
consist of three (3) quatrains and a couplet that follow this rhyme scheme: abab, cdcd, efef, gg.
Shakespearean sonnet
poems are short, three-line poems usually written about nature. The first line is five (5) syllables; the second line is seven (7) syllables; the third line is five (5) syllables
Haiku
poems are humorous five (5) line poems with a consistent AABBA rhyme scheme
Limerick
a song or poem expressing sorrow or lamentation especially for one who is dead
Elergy
are 19 lines with five tercets and a quatrain in a fixed verse form
Villanelle
he act of speaking one’s thoughts aloud when by oneself or regardless of listeners and a formal speech is made directly to an audience
Solilioquy
a long speech delivered by a character during a conversation
Monologue
conversation between two or more people as a feature of a book, play, or movie
