PNS Flashcards
PNS
Provides link to and from outside world and body
Mechanoreceptors
Respond to touch, pressure, vibration, and stretch
Photoreceptors
Respond to light energy
Chemoreceptors
Respond to chemicals (taste, smell)
Exteroceptors
Respond to stimuli arising outside body, in skin for touch/pressure/pain/temp
Interoceptors
Respond to stimuli arising in internal viscera, sensitive to chemical/temp changes, unaware of them
Proprioceptors
Respond to stretch in skeletal muscles, tendons, joint, ligaments. Inform brain of movements
Nociceptors
Unencapsulated. Sensitive to pain
Thermoreceptors
Unencapsulated. Sensitive to changes in temperature
Tacticle corpuscles
Encapsulated. Discriminative touch
Lamellar corpuscles
Encapsulated. Deep pressure and vibration
Bulbous corpuscles
Encapsulated. Deep continuous pressure
Muscle spindles
Encapsulated. Muscle stretch
Joint Kinesthetic Receptors
Encapsulated. Joint position and motion
Referred Pain
Pain from one body region is perceived in another. Left arm pain during heart attack
Endoneurium
Encloses axons and their myelin sheaths
Perineurium
Bundles fibers into fascicles
Epineurium
Surrounds a nerve
Mixed Nerves
Both sensory and motor fibers
Sensory Nerves
Afferent. Impulses towards CNS
Motor Nerves
Efferent. Impulses away from CNS
Cranial Nerves Phrase
Oh once one takes the anatomy final, very good vacations are heavenly
Cranial Nerves Sensory Phrase
Some say marry money, but my brother believes big boobs matter more
