What is PNP?
serious mental health illness that can affect a woman soon after she has a baby
Symptoms usually start suddenly within the first two weeks after giving birth
Sit (2006) - what is PNP?
PNP is a presentation of bipolar coincided with hormonal shifts
onset occurs within first 1-4 weeks after birth
where mother develops frank psychosis, cognitive impairments and disorganised behaviour
Key initial signs of PNP
becoming restless or elated and unable to sleep
becoming confused and disoriented about environment
not recognising friends or family
odd erratic speech
delusions or hallucinations focused on baby
manic or wild mood swings
