Personal life perspective argues that all other theories are outdated because?
- they all assume the NF is the dominant family type when, in fact there is fd today
- argue that people have no choice when it comes to creating their relationships and family types.
Argue to understand family life today we have to look at the meanings individuals hold and how these meanings affect the choices they make about the type of family they have.
PLP helps us understand how individuals define their relationship as ‘family’ and urge that family ties can be defined through relationships that go beyond blood or marriage ties. This means that all rs’s individuals consider as significant and that gives them a sense of belonging and relatedness can be considered as their family eg
relationships with friends
Fictive kin-close friend , calling mums bestfr ‘auntie’
chosen families -made up of supportive friends and ex-partners who aren’t related by blood or marriage
relationships with dead relatives
relationships with pets
