Q

Edgell

A

interviewed professional couples and found that the more important decision such as finances, jobs or moving house were mainly made by the man alone and the husband always having the last say. Less important decisions such as home decor or food purchases, were made by the women. Women make most of the decisions, but these relate to less important areas such as food whereas, men make fewer decisions but relate to more important decisions such as finances.

Q

PLP : Smart

A

PLP focuses on the meanings couples give to who controls the money.
Smart argues that in same sex couples the control of money is not seen as relevant to equality in the rs and same sex partners were happy to leave the control of money to their partner without feeling a lack of power in their rs. Smart argues this is bc same sex partners enters rs’s without the historical, heterosexual baggage of cultural meanings about money that see money as a source of power.
