Invades chest wall, mediastinum, oesophagus, heart, contralateral pleura, lymph nodes
Stage1
Contained within capsule of parietal pleura lung, pericardium, diaphragm
Stage3
Invasion through diaphragm into peritoneum, positive extra thoracic lymph nodes
Stage4
Distant blood born metastases (very rare)
Dx
Good occupational history**
Pleural fluid analysis: (types of cells)
Pleural biopsy via VATS* or thoracostomy/pleuroscopy
Immunohistochemistory: non dx
Mean survival
Pleural meso: 11.4 months
Peritoneal meso: 7.4 months

Malignant Pleural Effusion
VATS (safer)
Talc pleurodesis via tube thoracoscopy
Radiation therapy
NOT used as monotherapy
Dyspnea and SVCO do NOT respond to radiation**
