Pleural Cavity Flashcards
Visceral Pleura
Covers and follows the indentations of the lungs
Parietal Pleura
Lines the thoracic cavity
Includes subdivisions like costal pleura, diaphragmatic pleura, mediastinal pleura and cervical pleura
Pleural recesses
Large space or cavity formed by the reflection of parietal pleura from one area to another
Costodiaphragmatic recess
Space where costal and diaphragmatic pleura meets
Costomediastinal recess
Space where mediastinal and costal pleura meet
Allows expansion of lungs during inspiration
Also where we can stick a need for aspiration
Pulmonary ligament
The transition point between visceral and parietal pleural at root of lung
Cervical dome of pleura
Also known as dome of pleura
At level with neck of first rib
1.5cm-2.5cm above sternal end of clavicle
__ lobes on right ___ on the left. ___ lobules on right and ____ on left.
3 and 2
10 and 8
Angle between two primary bronchi is
62 degrees
The trachea bifurcates into primary bronchi at ____
sternal angle
Carina
Located at the inferior end of trachea where it branches into 2 primary bronchi
Produces intense cough reflex when in touch with foreign bodies
Compared to left bronchus, right bronchus is
shorter, straighter and larger than left.
Most aspirated objects are here
One pulmonary artery supplies each lung and arises form the
pulmonary trunk with deoxygenated blood
Two pulmonary veins from each lung are (intersegmental or intrasegmental)?
Intersegmental
Bronchial arteries supply the tissues of the lung which are (intersegmental or intrasegmental)?
intrasegmental
