Abdominal cavity Flashcards
What is the coelom?
A body cavity lined with mesoderm
Examples include pericardial cavity, pleural cavities and abdominopelvic cavity
What are the membranes associated with the coelem?
Parietal Membrane
Visceral Membrane
Mesenteries
What is retroperitoneal?
Structures behind the peritoneum like the kidney
Parietal Membrane
Lines walls of coelom
Visceral Membrane
Covers viscera within the coelem
Mesentries
double membrane connecting parietal and visceral peritoneum
What does the mesenteries do?
support viscera
Provide pathway for blood vessels and nerves to reach viscera
Major functions of liver
detoxification of blood
Storage of glycogen
secretion of bile
Protein synthesis
Where is the liver located?
In upper right portion of abdominal cavity
Project superiorly to xiphersternal junction
Projects as far as apex of heart
Project inferiorly to midpoint between xiphoid process and umbilicus
Falciform ligament
Runs to umbilicus
Encloses ligamentum teres
Projects anteriorly between right and left lobes
Coronary ligaments
Surrounds bare area
Reflect to inferior surface of diaphragm
Triangular ligaments
Represents the double folds of coronary ligaments
The right lobe of the liver is (largest/smallest)
largest
The left lobe is (smaller/larger) than right lobe but (larger/smaller) than caudate and quadrate
smaller
larger
Lesser omentum encloses portal triad of
portal vein
hepatic artery
biliary ducts
Portal System
Venous connection between two organs other than the heart. Connects the two capillary beds
Rugae
internal longitudinal ridges allows expansion of the stomach
Where is the stomach located?
upper left quadrant within epigastric and left hypochondriac regions
What are the three major subdivisions of the stomach?
Fundus
Body
Pylorus
What are the mesenteries and ligaments associated with liver
Falciform
Coronary
Triangular
The three liver surfaces include
Diaphragmatic (anterior, superior and some inferior)
Visceral (posteroinferior)
Bare Area
The two liver recesses are the
subphrenic recess
Hepatorenal recess
Portal Hepatis
Entry point for the portal triad including hepatic portal vein, common hepatic artery and common hepatic duct
Caudate lobe of liver is (posterior/anterior) to Quadrate located (superiorly/laterally)?
Posterior
Superiorly
