Pleura and Lungs Flashcards
1
Q
_Linings of Pulmonary Cavities _
- Endothoracic fascia
- Suprapleural membrane
- Parietal pleura
- Visceral pleura
- Pulmonary ligament
A
- Layer of connective tissue connecting costal parietal pleura to the thoracic wall
- Provides a limit to the cavity and stops the lungs from expanding out of the thoracic cavity
- Lines the pulmonary cavity. Has cervical, costal, mediastinal and diaphragmatic parts.
- Covers lung surface
- Sleeve of pleura hanging down below lung root

Q
Surface Markings of Pleura and Lungs
- Lungs
- Pleura
A
- Mid-clavicular line @ Rib 6, mid axillary line @ Rib 8 and scapular line @ Rib 10.
- Mid-clavicular line @Rib 8, mid axillary line @ Rib 10 and scapular line @ Rib 12

Q
Lobes
- Right lung has…
- Left lung has…
A
- 3
- 2
4
Q
Left lung Hilum
- Pulmonary artery
- Pulmonary veins
- Main bronchus
A
- Most superior
- Two. Most inferior, with one on the curve of the “P”. Also most anterior.
- Towards left side, fairly central. Also most posterior.
5
Q
Right Lung Hilum
- Pulmonary arteries
- Pulmonary veins
- Main bronchus
A
- Two. One superior and one central.
- Take up large area across bottom of “P”, with the tail of “P” being the pulmonary ligament. Also most anterior.
- Towards the right side, fairly tall and sitting from a central position to the apex. Most posterior.
6
Q
Bronchopulmonary Segmentation
- Order
A
- Trachea -> Main bronchi -> Lober bronchi -> Segmental bronchi -> Bronchioles (conducting, terminal or respiratory) -> Alveolar duct -> Alveolar sac with capillary plexus
- 3 lober bronchi on right and 2 on left based on number of lobes.
7
Q
Lymphatics
- Direction of drainage
A
- From periphery, towards hilum and up trachea
