Autonomic Nervous System Flashcards
1
Q
-Spinal Nerves-
Give some info on the picture
A
- Spinal nerves have to send signals to both the anterior and posterior parts of the body
- Each spinal nerve is composed of the dorsal and ventral roots coming together
- Bulge on dorsal root is dorsal root ganglion
- Dorsal contributes sensory innervation, and ventral gives motor
2
Q
-Somatic Nerves-
What is a reflex arc?
A
- The sense receptor triggers, and fires into the spinal cord, where a synapse allows a quick response
3
Q
-Autonomic Nervous Sysem-
- What types of fibres?
- Innervates what?
- Conscious or unconscious control?
A
- Afferent and Efferent fibres
- Viscera, smooth muscle, cardiac muscle and glands
- Non-conscious control
4
Q
-Parasympathetic Nervous System-
- Comes from?
- What does it do?
- What nerves are involved?
A
- Cranial and Sacral regions
- Rest and digest. Slows heart and breathing rate and increases intestinal motility
- Cranial nerves III, VII, IX and X
5
Q
-Sympathetic Nervous System-
Sympathetic Nervous System
A
- Gives the fight or flight response - Cell bodies are in the lateral horn of the spinal cord between T1 and L1/2 - Sympathetic chain has ganglia either side of spinal cord. Innervates outside of T1-L1. White ramus comminicans are T1-L1 and grey are at every level.
6
Q
-Pain in the ANS-
- How is the pain interperated?
A
- The pain is interperated as in the spinal area
- Referred pain to the body wall rather than to the exact spot
- Knowing which areas refer pain to where can help you estimate where the damage is
7
Q
-Enteric Nervous System-
What is the enteric nervous system?
A
- The gut’s own nervous system. It is regulated by the ANS but is capable of independent function
