  • Have mesentery (stomach, gall bladder, spleen, small intestine, caecum etc)
  • No mesentery ever or lost in development
  • Partially covered in peritoneum. Primary (kidneys, supra-renal glands etc) and secondary (pancreas, parts 2-4 of duodenum and ascending/descending colon etc)
  • Sub peritoneal. Lower 1/3 of rectum and many pelvic organs.

  • Function
  • Blood vessels

  • Suspended from the greater curvature of the stomach and covers the anterior surface of the transverse colon
  • Moves to problem areas and covers them to try and prevent spread of infection
  • Carries vessels to supply itself and the greater curvature of the stomach
