- Intra-peritoneal

- Have mesentery (stomach, gall bladder, spleen, small intestine, caecum etc)
- No mesentery ever or lost in development
- Partially covered in peritoneum. Primary (kidneys, supra-renal glands etc) and secondary (pancreas, parts 2-4 of duodenum and ascending/descending colon etc)
- Sub peritoneal. Lower 1/3 of rectum and many pelvic organs.

- Suspended from the greater curvature of the stomach and covers the anterior surface of the transverse colon
- Moves to problem areas and covers them to try and prevent spread of infection
- Carries vessels to supply itself and the greater curvature of the stomach

- Area of communication between greater and lesser sacs

- What does it contain?
A
- Carries nerves, vessels and lymphatics to most of the small intestine (ileum and jejunum). Branches of the superior mesenteric artery/vein
