Platelet (PLT) Parameters Flashcards

1
Q

PLT (platelet) and PCT (Platelet Crit)

A

Increase: potentially asssociated with hypercoagulable state.

Decreases: Bone marrow failure, increase consumption (coagulation, inflammation. etc. ) and destruction of blood (Infectious, immune-medicated, etc.)

Q

PDW (Platelet distribution width)

Increases: indicate increased variability in size, which may be an indicator of response to a need for platelets. (No significant in cats)

Decreases: may be seen with immune-medicated thrombocytopenia (a condition that occurs when the platelet count in your blood is too low).
