Q

How do tectonic plates move?

A

1 - Tectonic plates float on top of the mantle and move around due to convection currents.
2 - The liquid rock in the mantle gets heated from the core.
3 - The warm material has more energy so it rises towards the surface.
4 - Eventually it cools down and material starts to sink as it has less energy than the warmer material around it.
5 - This up-down motion is called convection currents.
