Plasma proteins Flashcards

1
Q

Plasma protein function?

A
1- regulate blood volume
2-coagulation of blood
3-carrier function
4-defense function
5-blood viscosity
6-buffering function

Others :

  • carry CO2 from tissue to lung
  • control capillaries permeability
  • uses by tissue during starvation

Q

Explain how plasma protein control blood volume?

A

Their large size will exert an osmotic pressure
Mainly by albumin
Why albumin ? Height concentration of it and small molecular weight

Q

Explain how plasma protein control blood viscosity ? And why is it important?

A

Blood viscosity is produced by RBCs and plasma protein
mainly by fibrinogen due to its enelogted shape
They produce peripheral resistance that will maintain ABP

Q

Talk about albumin: globulin ratio

A

Normally it’s 1.2 to 1.6

It’s important because it changes in many diseases clinically
For example it will be ⬇️ in liver and kidney patient
