Plasma Proteins Flashcards
What are the two major groups proteins can be divided into?
Simple (Globular and Fibrous)
Compound (Conjugated)
What is important about Simple Proteins?
Include Globular proteins such as Albumin and Immunoglobulins
Include Fibrous proteins such as Collagens and Keratins
What is important about Compound Proteins?
Conjugated proteins consist of a protein and Nonprotein Prosthetic Group
Where are the majority of Plasma Proteins produced?
In the Liver or B Lymphocytes
Proteins appear on a Serum Electrophoresis Test. How can the be divided?
Into bands such as:
Albumin
A1
A2
B (B1 & B2)
Y
What is the response to Infection, Injury, or Inflammatory Processes?
Acute Phase Response (APR)
How do we refer to proteins affected by Acute Phase Response?
Acute Phase Proteins (APP)
A protein was elevated in response to an Acute Phase Response. How do we classify it?
Positive Acute Phase Protein (Positive APP)
