English government confiscated 480,000 acres of land
It was then divided into estates between 4-12000 acres
These estates were granted to English undertakers

Introduce English methods of farming
30 English families per 4,000 acre estate
Settlers to be provided with weapons and a safe place to go if under attack
No Irish tenants are allowed on your land

Why did they come during the plantation?
The scots were told they would get land. Servitors-paid off land. Undertakers-they had to rent out lands to tenants

The English government needed more control over Ireland, so that the Protestant religion could be strengthened
