Plant Transport Flashcards
1
Q
Xylem vessels
A
They are made from dead cells in long continuous tubes, go up further toward the centre of the stem and carry water up to the leaves - this is called the transpiration stream
2
Q
Phloem vessels
A
are made from living cells and go up and down the outside and carry sugary sap - this is called translocation
3
Q
Transpiration
A
This is the evaporation of water to water vapour through the leaves of a plant/bush
4
Q
Transpiration stream
A
These are the streams that carry all the water up to the leaves in the stem
5
Q
Translocation
A
Translocation is the movement of sugary sap from leaves to other tissues throughout the plant.
