Cells Flashcards
Eukaryotes and prokaryotes
Similarities - ribosomes, cell membrane and cytoplasm
Differences - eukaryotes have a cellulose cell wall, mitochondria and are evolved from prokaryotes
Prokaryotes are much older, have free DNA and are single celled.
Plant cell
Animal cell
Plant cell - nucleus, cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, chloroplasts and vacuole.
Animal cell - nucleus, cell membrane and cytoplasm.
Nerve cell
Contain a nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm, axon, sheath and can be up to a meter long.
Root hair cell
They contain: a nucleus, a permanent vacuole, a cell wall, a cell membrane and cytoplasm
Sperm cell
They have long tails to be able to swim efficiently to the egg and fertilise it. They also have STREAMLINED heads to also make swimming more efficiently to the egg.
Ciliated epithelial cell
These cells have thousands of fine hairs called cilia, they also have cytoplasm and a nucleus.
Egg cell
The ovum or female gamete are 85,000 times bigger than the sperm cell and have a nucleus, cytoplasm and a LAYER OF JELLY that makes it easy for the sperm cell to penetrate the eggand fertilise it.
