Enzymes Flashcards
Enzyme
They are special proteins involved in ‘metabolism’
They help to speed up reactions.

Lipids(fats)
Minerals
Carbohydrates
Are used to give us energy and the energy supply is the starch.
Proteins
Are needed to build the muscles and tissues in our bodies
Lipids(fats)
They are the most efficient store of energy and they provide good energy for our diet.
Digestive system - the organs and their functions.
Mouth, oesophagus, diaphragm, liver, duodenum, gall bladder, small intestine, large intestine, anus, rectum, large intestine, pancreas and stomach
Mouth
Food enters the digestive system via the mouth and is chewed into small enough chunks to get down the oesophagus and into the stomach.
Oesophagus
Muscular tube which moves ingested food to the stomach
Small intestine
The partially digested food exits the stomach and enters the small intestine.
Stomach
Temporary storage facility for food that is being digested
Large intestine
Transports mashed up food from the stomach to the anus where the waste is released from the body
Rectum
Where faeces are stored
Anus
Where faeces leave the alimentary canal
Pancreas
Produces digestive enzymes
Liver
Produces the bile
