Plant Reproduction Flashcards
Fertilisation
When pollen from the anther has been transferred to the stigma and down through the style, to the ovary
Stamen
The male reproductive organ of a flower
Carpel
The female reproductive organ of a flower
Anther
A part of the stamen that contains pollen
Filament
The part of the Stamen that supports the anther, (it is a little stalk)
Stigma
The part of a carpel that receives pollen during pollination
Style
The style is a Part of the Carpel. It is a long thin stalk that connects the stigma and the ovary.
Ovary
The ovary contains ovules, which develop into seeds upon fertilization.
Bisexual
Flowers that both contain male and female genitals.
Unisexual
Flowers that contain male not female or female not male
The 4 types of pollination
Wind, Self, insect and cross-pollination
Wind Pollination
when pollen is carried by the wind.
Self Pollination
When pollen is transferred to the same flower
Insect Pollination
When pollen is carried by the insect to another flower
Cross-Pollination
When pollen grains from an anther of a flower to the stigma of a different flower of another plant
