planning a training year Flashcards
1
Q
Pre-Season
A
- Periodisation: Period before competition where trainer focuses on developing the fundamental of sport (6-12 weeks)
- General Mesocycle: Focus on muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance
- Specific Mesocycle: Focus on power, speed, ball control
- As trianing approached competition, increase intensity and decrease voluem training
2
Q
In- Season
A
- Increase emphasis on game like skills and strategic development
- Training volume during competition decreases
- E.G. Tennis competition last for 2-4 weeks
3
Q
Off-Season
A
- Focus on relaxation and recovery
- Training volume and intensity decreases
- Variety is key
4
Q
Subphases: MACROCYCLE
A
- Whole year training program
- E.G. Athlete training to win Olympic will have 4 year macrocycle
5
Q
Subphases: MESOCYCLE
A
- Few year to few months training program
- Macrocycle goals are broken up into smaller goals that are achieved during each mesocycle
6
Q
Subphases: MICROCYCLE
A
- Single week training program
- Focus on singular aspect
7
Q
Peaking
A
- Athlete performing at their absolute best during competition
- Optimum arousal levels
8
Q
Tapering
A
- Reducing training volume and intensity prior to competition to achieve peaking
- Strength and plyometric training causes small muscular tears
- 2-4 weeks prior to competition
- Allow nutrient levels to maximise for athlete to recover
9
Q
Sport Specific Subphases
A
- A triathlete will have a larger focus on cardiovascular endurance than a basketball player
