Planet Earth Flashcards
Name the perfect conditions that Earth has?
Heat
Warmth
Water
Oxygen
What shape is the earth?
The earth is like a ball that has been squeezed at the poles so it’s a slightly flattened sphere
What tilt is the earth at?
23.5 degrees
How many times does the earth rotate on its axis?
Every 24 hours
How many times does the earth orbit the sun?
Every 365.25 days
What are the four layers of the earth?
Inner core
Outer core
Mantle
Crust
What was the huge super continent called?
Pangea
How are convection currents formed?
The core heats the magma causing it to move towards the crust. Here it cools and sinks. This process then starts all over again
Name the seven large plates?
North American plate Pacific plate Nazca plate African plate Eurasian plate Indo- austrailian plate South American plate
How are fold mountains formed?
Form over a long period of time. 2 plates collide. 1 plate is heavier then the other and is pushed into the mantle where it melts. The rock a above over time folds and rises forming mountain ranges
How are earthquakes formed?
When plates move friction is created. As plates collide friction becomes too much, pressure is realeased and an earthquake occurs
What are tsunamis?
A tsunami is a series of waves generated in an ocean by a disturbance such as an earthquake or volcanic eruption
Name all the plants?
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
