Planes of the body Flashcards
What is the Coronal/Frontal plane?
= A plane perpendicular to the ground - it separates the front (anterior/ventral) from the back (posterior/dorsal).
What is the Median/Midsaggital plane?
= A plane perpendicular to the ground - straight down the middle (from the middle of the head to between the feet) separating the left from the right.
What is the Parasaggital plane?
= A plane perpendicular to the ground - sits parallel to the Midsaggital but doesn’t sit in the middle, it separates the left from the right unequally/unevenly.
What is the Horizontal/Transverse plane?
= A plane parallel to the ground - separates the top (superior) from the bottom (inferior).
= “cross-section”
What is the Oblique plane?
= A plane that sits diagonal to the ground.
What is the Subcostal plane?
= A transverse plane that lies parallel to the ground that sits at the bottom of the ribs.
= The top horizontal plane that divides the nine abdominopelvic regions?
What is the Intertubercular plane?
= A transverse plane that lies parallel to the ground that sits across the hips.
= The bottom horizontal plane that divides the nine abdominopelvic regions?
What are the Mid-clavicular planes?
= The two vertical parasagittal planes that lie perpendicular to the ground, parallel to the midsaggital plane from the mid- clavicle and down.
= The two verticle planes that divide the nine abdominopelvic regions
