Planes of Motion Flashcards
What are the three cardinal planes of motion?
Sagittal, frontal, transverse
Sagittal plane
divides body into right and left halves
frontal plane
divides body in to anterior and posterior halves
transverse plane
divides body into superior and inferior halves
diagonal planes of motion
involve a combination of movements from the cardinal planes
frontal axis
runs medial lateral, includes flexion and extension movements
sagittal axis
runs anterior/posterior, includes abduction and adduction movements
vertical axis
runs superior/inferior, includes internal and external rotation
Diagonal or oblique axis
runs at a right angle to the diagonal plane
axial
body region that consists of the cephalic, cervical, and trunk
appendicular
body region that consists of the upper and lower limbs
