What is kinesiology?
study of motion or human movement
what is anatomic kinesiology?
study of human musculoskeletal system and musculotendinous system
what is biomechanics?
application of mechanical physics to human motion
what is structural kinesiology?
study of muscles as they are involved in science of movement
Anatomical position
standing upright, facing straight ahead, feet parallel, palms facing forward
Fundamental position
similar to anatomical, however, arms are at side and palms face body
fetal position
lying on either side, spine flexed, head flexed toward chest and extremities flexed and drawn toward torso
dorsal recumbent position
supine with hips flexed about 45 degrees and knees flexed about 90 degrees with feet flat on surface
lateral recumbent position
lying on either side, knees and hips may by straight or slightly flexed
long sitting position
sitting with legs extended forward, toes pointed, trunk erect and hands on hips
short sitting position
sitting upright with knees flexed and hanging over the edge of the surface
prone position
face down, lying on stomach
supine position
face-upward, lying on back
