What is a plane?
An imaginary flat surface running through the body.
Movement happens through or along a plane.
What is an axis?
An imaginary line at right angles to the plane, about which the body rotates or spins.
Movement happens around the axis (solid rod/bar)
What is the Sagittal plane?
Cuts the body into left and right sides. Movement along this plane tends to be moving forwards or backwards.
Flexion and extension happens here
What is the Transverse plane?
Cuts the body into top half and bottom half
Rotation occurs here.
What is the Frontal plane?
Cuts the body into front and back.
Abduction and adduction occurs here.
What is the sagittal axis?
Goes through the stomach.
What is the transverse axis?
Goes through the sides/hips.
What is the longitudinal axis?
Running from head to feet.
What movement happens along the agitate plane?
Running
Long jump
Summersault.
What movement happens at the transverse plane?
Seat drop
Spinning in ice skating.
What movement happens at the frontal plane?
Star jumps
Cartwheels.
