Define balanced diet?
Eating the right amount of calories to deal with the energy that will be needed (energy expenditure).
What are the seven constituents of a balanced diet?
Carbohydrates Protein Fibre Fats Vitamins Minerals Water
Talk about carbohydrates.
They are separated into two groups simple or complex. They are the main source of energy.
We get it from pasta, cereals and potatoes.
Talk about fats?
Provides slow energy and is a major source of energy for the body.
We get it from cheese, cream, meat, oil and butter.
Talk about proteins?
Builds and repairs muscle. It’s important the growth of new tissue. This is an important part of diet especially when injured.
Talk about vitamins?
Essential to maintain good health, required in small quantities. Helps the body to concentrate.
We get it from frog and vegetables.
Talk about minerals.
Required in small amounts, helps release energy from food.
Found in fruit, vegetables and meats.
Talk about water.
Essential to maintain, failure to do so can result in dehydration.
Talk about fibre.
It helps prevent disease, weight gain by assisting with digestion.
We get it from whole grain cereal, fruit (only found in foods found on plants).
