Baby’s blood vessels run across or very close to the opening of the cervix.
(if patients water breaks, vessels rupture, very significant risk of fetal loss!!!)

Placenta accreta: chorionic villi invade
beyond uterine lining deeper into the uterus
Placenta increta: chorionic villi invade into the myometrium
Placenta percreta: chorionic villi go past the myometrium, can attach to other organs such as bowel or bladder

Placenta separates from uterine lining prior to delivery of fetus
-DARK RED PAINFUL BLEEDING
-STRONG CONTRACTIONS
-Non-reassuring fetal heart rate pattern
