A

1 hour test to screen for gestational diabetes, usually done between 24-28 weeks of pregnancy.

Early screening if pt has:
-History of GDM with prior pregnancy
-Strong family history of diabetes
-Obese

No fasting required

If your blood sugar is high, you need to do the 3-hour GTT for a more accurate diagnosis.

After fasting, you drink a sugary drink.

Your blood sugar levels are tested before drinking, and then again every hour for three hours.

What is Non-stress test?

A test to monitor the baby’s heart rate and movement

Reactive NST: The baby’s heart rate goes up when the monitor is placed on belly.
15 beats in 15 sec
2 accelerations in 20 min is good if greater than 32 weeks

Nonreactive NST: The baby’s heart rate doesn’t go up. Might mean baby is sleeping, or could be a sign of a problem.

If NST is non-reactive, further testing might be needed.

-Fetal breathing= at least one episode of breathing greater than 30 sec.

-Fetal tone=extension/flexion of limb, opening/closing fist

-Fetal movement= 3 movements in 30 minutes

-AFI= greater than 5cm

-Reactive non-stress test
