A
superficial cutaneous fungal infection caused by malassezia furfur

what are the features of pityriasis versicolor?
A
- most commonly affects trunk
- patches may be hypopigmented, pink or brown
- may be more noticeable following a suntan
- scale is common
- mild pruritus

what are the predisposing factors for pityriasis versicolor?
A
- occurs in healthy individuals
- immunosuppresion
- malnutrition
- cushings

what is the management of pityriasis versicolor?
A
- topical antifunal = ketoconazole shampoo
- failure to respond –> alternative diagnosis + oral itraconazole
