Aetiology:
A
Found para-limbal, but mainly nasally
Caused by degeneration of collagen fibres
Associated with age or chronic environmental irritation (e.g., eye rubbing /dusty environments)

Signs:
A
Raised bulbar conjunctival lesion
Conjunctival thickening, usually close to limbus
White appearance, but can become yellow
Calcification can be present
Can affect tear layer ==>reduce TBUT / tear prism
Can become inflamed ==>pingueculitis

Symptoms:
A
Usually asymptomatic
Mild FB sensation
Discomfort if inflamed

Management:
A
Reassure px that is benign
Discuss aetiology and advise regarding reducing/ removing cause
Ocular lubricants to reduce symptoms
