Define “high performance airplane” and who can pilot one?
An aircraft with a powerplant greater than 200hp. A one-time endorsement can sign a pilot off on flying in a high-performance aircraft.
What other ASEL aircraft require an endorsement?
1) High altitude airplane - any aircraft with a service ceiling above 25,000ft MSL
2) Tailwheel
Define “Complex” Airplane
1) Retractable Gear
2) Controllable pitch prop
3) Flaps
Requires a logbook endorsement in order to pilot.
Define Category, Class, Type
Category: a broad classification of aircraft; airplane, rotorcraft, glider
Class: a classification of aircraft within a specific category that shares a specific feature: single-engine land, sea, multi, etc.
Type: a specific make and model of a specific aircraft including modification that don’t change its flight characteristics
How does a PPL remain current?
Within the preceding 24 months, received a flight review and an endorsement from an instructor acknowledging the flight review.
What allows a PPL to carry passengers?
In the past 90 days: - complete 3 takeoff and landings in the same aircraft class and type
For night:
- complete 3 take off and landings to a full stop from the period beginning 1 hour after sunset and 1 hour before sunrise
When can you log time as PIC? If you’re flying along with a friend in a high performance and complex aircraft, can you log that time as PIC?
Yes, the time can be logged, but you can not act as the PIC.
How long does a pilot have to contact the FAA after changing their mailing address?
30 days.
What are a few medical conditions that are temporary disqualifying?
Substance abuse, bipolar, epilepsy
What happens if a pilot goes over 24 months without a flight review?
A pilot can not be PIC unless they have had a flight review. If they perform the acts of PIC and the act is deemed reckless or carless, they can have their license suspended.
