What is an airworthiness certificate
It certifies that the specific aircraft meets the minimum design and manufacturing requirements for safe operation. The aircraft must always meet the original specs of the Airworthiness certificate to remain compliant and legally operable.
When does an airworthiness certificate expire?
The certificate remains effective so long as the maintenance checks and safety directives are complied with and the aircraft is shown to conform to its original type design.
Where must the airworthiness certificate be located?
At the entrance or front of the cockpit, so as to be visible for passengers and/or crew.
How does a pilot ensure an aircraft is conforming to its original type certificate?
It verifies that all maintenance checks and alterations have been logged appropriately in the logs.
What is an airworthiness directive?
A directive that is sent out by the FAA regarding a needed repair or alteration with an aircraft. This must be complied with in order to maintain airworthiness.
Describe the difference between an Aircraft Registration Certificate and its Airworthiness Certificate
Before a plane can be legally flown, it must be registered in the FAA Aircraft Registry. This registration must be in the cockpit at all times.
When does an aircraft registration expire?
The registration is good to the last day of the month, three years after its original issuance.
