Dissolution of the Monastries
When Henry VIII split from Rome he dissolved the monasteries to gain their wealth. Angered commoners as they were an integral part to their lives, providing healthcare and general support
Problems caused by religous change
Social: the church and monasteries were central to peoples lives, the king had taken this away
Political: the prominence of noble families shift with the change in religion
Economic: Even with the influx of wealth from the monasteries, Henry raised taxes
Religious: The church of England was different to Rome and many disliked it
The Pilgramage of Grace
A popular protest against the changes caused by the break from Rome, led by a peace adhering lawyer Robert Aske. The pilgrims took control of most of northern England but was tricked by the Duke of Norfolk and Henry III had the leaders executed
Significance
No more revolts occurred against him during Henry’s reign
Protestants felt more confident practicing their beliefs, leading to more changes
