Introduced by Edward III restricted peasants’ wages to pre-Black Death levels

Introduced to fund the wars with France - universal price
Peasants revolt
Started as a protest against the poll tax but soon but soon turned into a wider revolt as an accumulation of the peasants’ resentment - Led by Wat Tyler. Reached London and was met by the king who agreed to the demands of reform after the death of Tyler but soon went back on his word and the leaders were hung
Short term impacts
First time commoners had rebelled against royal power which scared nobles and the king despite its failure
Long term impacts
Peasants were never taxed so heavily again
Peasants wages continued to increase
More peasants became Freemen and were able to but their own land
