What is Melasma?
Where is it m/c located?
Are M or F affected more?

- Chronic recurring disorder of hyperpigmentation d/t excessive melanin deposition
- Symmetrical (face, cheeks, upper lip, forehead)
- F > M

Contributing factors of Melasma?
A
- Genetics
- Sun/UV exposure
- Hormones/Pregnancy
- Photosensitizing meds & Anticonvulsants

What is Vitiligo?
What’s it associated with?
A
- Chronic dis-pigmentation disorder that results in white spots d/t loss of melanocytes
- Associated with AI conditions like Hashimotos

How do you treat Melasma?
A
COSMETIC
- Avoid sun
- Hydroquinone cream-bleaching agent
- Chemical peel like Glycolic Acid

How do you treat Vitiligo?
A
- Stabilization therapy like oral steroids, IM steroids +/-NBUVB (targeted light therapy)
- 1st line for <10%TBSA = mid-high potency topical steroids (pulse therapy is recommended)
