Write a simple definition of a pie.
Pie is a baked dish that comes in many forms and tastes, and is popularly known as the dessert for Thanksgibing.
Describe the primitive version of a pie.
Pies date back to the egyptians, ofcourse in that time they werent as evolved in the kitchen as we are now. Their pies were mostly composed of ground meals that were filled with different types of fruit and nuts. Pies werent as complex as today.
What type of pies were created by the Europeans as early as the 1200’s.
Types of pies created by Europeans were savory pies.
Who introduced pies to America and when?
The Pilgrims introduced pies to us in the 1600’s
Give examples of regional pies in America that feature ingredients that are typical for each region.
Pennsylvania (dutch) they made Shoo fly pies, in Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas they made Pecan pie because it was in these areas where great abundance of pecan trees are, anf in Florida they made key lime pies again because limes were easily cropped in Florida.
Why is the crust so important to the quality of the pie?
Because it is the physical appeal and structure of the pie, and it adds texture to it.
What are the main ingredients to a pie crust?
all purpose flour, cake flour, fat(butter) salt and water.
What is so important about using Ice water in a pie crust? Think back about scones and biscuits.
The Importance of adding ice water to the pie crust is that it prevents the dough from melting and makes it have its flaky texture like scones.
What is the criteria for evaluating a pie crust?
The criteria for evaluating a pie crutts is by its texture, appearance, flavor and tendernes.

What type of pie do you want to learn to make? It may not be able to happen this week but you can probably make it at some point during the year
I believe that it would be a fun experience to attempt to make a cream pie with a crumb crust.
What does it mean to flute a pie crust?
It means to pinch the edge of the crust
What does it mean to dock a pie crust?
To prick the crust with a fork to allow the steam to escape.
