PICO: Problem and Population Flashcards
What things would make you question the results that the researchers found?
> . Who has funded the research?
. Who are the authors and where do they work?
. Do the authors declare any conflicts of interest?
. Is the research peer reviewed and in a well-known journal?
Aspects of problem to be considered
> . How did researcher arrive at this topic?
. What exactly is the topic being explored?
. What is the research question?
Population of interest is:
> . Entire group of individuals to whom the findings are generalisable;
. Defined by at least one characteristic or criteria; and
. Indicated by where the sample of study participants comes from.
Sampling involves
> . Finding members of population of interest who can/will participate in the study;
. Selected by various techniques; and
. Representative of population or relevant to the topic being studied – (i.e. match the criteria for inclusion).
