Nuts & Bolts Flashcards
Quantitative research encompasses
A probability theory
Realism (Naturalism) – Views reality objectively
Two broad methods/designs
Observational
Experimental
Observational studies
> . Observe the topic of interest.
. Without intervening.
Experimental studies
> . Intervene or experiment.
. May compare two or more interventions; and
. Identify relationships between two or more factors.
Correlation & correlation coefficient
> . Correlation is the statistical relationship between two factors
. ‘Line of best fit’ shows relationship
. Positive correlation (r > 0)
. Negative correlation (r < 0)
. No correlation (r = 0)
Outliers
> . Outliers are data points that differ significantly from other observations.
. Outliers have the potential to skew results and thus may be excluded.
