Schemes:
mental structures that organise information and regulate behaviour.
Assimilation:
taking in info that is compatible with what one already knows.
Accommodation:
changing existing knowledge based on new knowledge.
Equilibration:
the process by which children reorganise their schemes to return to a state of equilibrium when disequilibrium occurs.
4 period’s of development:
-sensorimotor
-preoperational
-concrete operational
-formal operation
Sensorimotor period:
birth to 2 years.
Object permanence:
understanding that objects exists independently of oneself.
Egocentrism:
difficulty seeing the world from anothers point of view.
Animism:
phenomenon of crediting inanimate objects with life and lifelike properties.
Centration:
narrowly focused type of thought that characterizes preoperational children.
