Physiology- Reabsorption & Secretion Flashcards
1
Q
where does most sodium reabsorption occur?
A
proximal tubule
- into cells via SGLT which transports Na and Glucose in
- out into interstitial fluid via active transport - Na/K pump
2
Q
what does diffusion of sodium into tubule cells also cause?
A
also allows all of the following components of the filtrate to be reabsorbed too: anions ie Cl, H2o, k, Ca & urea
3
Q
when does substrate enter the urine?
A
If Tm (maximum transport capacity) of a carrier protein has been exceeded
4
Q
what is tubular secretion important for?
A
substances that are protein bound
